New Survivor Panel Established to Shape Government Policy

The British Government has announced a £1 million investment to establish a new panel of adult survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation. The panel will provide survivors with a direct voice in shaping government policies and decisions that affect them. It will be operated by the Independent Victims’ Commissioner for England and Wales, ensuring that survivors’ experiences and perspectives help inform future support and safeguarding measures.

New Anti-Social Behaviour Law Now in Force in England and Wales

A new anti-social behaviour law for England and Wales allows the police, local authorities, transport operators, and social housing landlords to apply for Respect Orders against adults involved in anti-social behaviour. These orders can ban individuals from certain places, such as town centres and public transport.

Courts may impose sanctions including community service, curfews, fines, or prison sentences of up to two years. Offenders may also be required to attend anger management programmes or receive drug and alcohol treatment. Details of Respect Orders will be recorded on the Police National Computer.

The new law replaces civil injunctions for adult offenders and applies to conduct that causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm, or distress to others.
