Home   »   News Articles   »   Wanted: Young Authors Session Leader

Streamz is looking for a Young Authors Session Leader:

Location: 143-145 Brixton Road, London SW9 6LZ.
Salary/wage: Up to £20ph.
Commitment: 3 hours a-week.
Responsible to: Project Manager / Chief Executive.

About Streamz

Streamz was founded as a result of the 2011 English Riots. The events that took place during this time
compelled us to empathise, engage and enrich our community.

Our Mission is to be committed to finding innovative approaches to improve the employment prospects
and wellbeing of the community, in order to counter inactivity, unemployment and crime. We run a
number of initiatives in order to fulfil our mission including an online radio station and a literacy and
numeracy group for children.

About Young Authors

As an organisation we realised that our initial strategy of working with NEETs was more of a firefighting
approach, rather than dealing with some of the root causes. We therefore took the step to work with
children at their earlier stages of their development to improve and enhance their life choices – giving
birth to Young Authors.

Young Authors is a weekly, one-hour literacy session supporting children from disadvantaged
communities. This initiative was established in 2017 to inspire children from the ages of 4 to 11 to:
read and write more; improve their literacy; become independent learners and build learning power;
(4) develop their analytical and evaluative skills. During the six-plus years since its inception, these
results have been achieved through engaging teaching, creative lessons and keeping parents involved
in the development of their child.
